Friends of Cabin John Creek, the Little Falls Watershed Alliance, and Muddy Branch Alliance invite you to a screening of Hometown Habitat - Stories of Bringing Nature Home followed by a discussion with filmmaker Catherine Zimmerman and MCDEP RainScapes program manager Ann English. .
Hometown Habitat features renowned entomologist Dr. Douglas Tallamy, whose research, books and lectures on the use of non-native plants in landscaping, sound the alarm about habitat and species loss. Tallamy provides the narrative thread that challenges the notion that humans are here and nature is someplace else. “It doesn’t have to, and shouldn’t be that way.” The 90-minute documentary focuses on how and why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local ecosystems, and aims to encourage everyone to include native plants in our gardens.
Inspiring stories of community commitment to conservation landscaping illustrate Tallamy’s vision by showing how humans and nature can co-exist with mutual benefits. The commitment to conservation landscaping of the seven hometown habitat heroes profiled in the film will inspire you.
Please join in the discussion that follows the screening, which will include filmmaker Catherine Zimmerman and MCDEP RainScapes program manager Ann English.
