Every Day is Earth Day!

Earth Month was in April, but no reason not to continue the fun into June.

TAKE THE HIDDEN GEM CHALLENGE

The Little Falls watershed is full of beautiful natural places. Many people walk or bike along the Capital Crescent trail and the Little Falls Hiker/Biker trails, but we have many other parks and trails. Spend an hour or two exploring an unfamiliar park and send us a picture of your new favorite place. With your permission, we will post the pictures on our facebook page.

Click HERE to see the board’s favorite places. Click HERE for a map of the watershed and a list of trails and parks..

Do a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Get up close with nature and see if you can find the items on the scavenger lists! We have two list - one with pictures and one that engages all fives senses! Download them HERE.

Creek Critters

Download the Creek Critter app and hunt for macro-invertebrates in your local creek. For those who don't about Creek Critters - this is a free app that helps you ID the macro-organisms living in the creek. We use it for our very popular Creek Critter days, but it's designed as a do-it-yourself activity. All you need is a net, a cup and a bucket and you can hunt for creek critters! More information on Creek Critters is HERE.

Clean the Creek

Our monthly trash pick-ups are suspended while the Parks are closed, but individual trash pick-ups are still allowed. So, grab some gloves, a few bags and get the trash out - all while following the social distancing guidelines. Montgomery Parks has said that you may leave the bags by their trash cans and they will pick them up.

Experience the Little Falls Parkway without Cars

The Little Falls Parkway is closed for vehicle traffic from Fridays at 9:00 to Sundays at 6:00 pm until June 28. The parkway runs from Massachusetts Avenue to Arlington Road in the Bethesda Chevy Chase area.. That’s 1.3 miles of parkway for people powered activities. Bring a trash bag and do a clean-up while you’re there.
