Green Acres Planting Day

Green Acres Habitat Project
Little Falls Drive between Wakefield Rd and Yorktown Rd, Bethesda, MD

Join us to plant native flowers including common milkweed (a favorite of monarchs), swamp milkweed, goldenrod (attracts bees, grasshoppers and butterflies), spotted bee balm, cardinal flower (ruby-throated hummingbird and Swallowtail butterflies,) and American bellflower. These native plants attract pollinators and birds, and their deep roots hold the soil in place and allow the rainwater to soak in.

Bring: a trowel or shovel, if you have them, gloves, and a water bottle, Tools/gloves will be provided as needed. If there’s time, we will also remove invasive vines from trees nearby, so bring clippers or loppers too.

Pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Students under 14 years must be accompanied by responsible adult.

Weather policy: We usually hold pulls as long as there is not pouring rain or deep snow. We will post messages on the LFWA website that morning if we need to cancel.
