The Little Falls Branch is a beautiful creek, meandering its way through Somerset, Green Acres and through the Little Falls Stream Valley Park. Every day, hundreds of people visit the park to walk their dogs, jog, bike and just stroll along the creek banks taking in the native flowers, trees and listening to the song birds. We have owls, hawks, foxes, deer, woodpeckers and many varieties of song birds and butterflies. We are lucky to have such an oasis in this urban area.
And we are lucky to have two other creeks - the Minnehaha Branch and the Willett Branch - in the watershed as well more than a dozen small parks. In 2008, a group of neighbors decided that these areas needed help and the Little Falls Watershed Alliance was founded. Our mission is to protect our natural environment.
Through actions, advocacy and outreach programs, we speak for our creeks and our local environment. We hold monthly trash pick-ups. Almost every week, we are leading volunteers to free trees from vines; we restored three meadows in partnership local governmental agencies. We work with neighborhood associations to do stormwater management so that our creeks are not flooded out every time it rains. We advocate for new parks - thanks to our efforts, the Westbard Sector will get a new stream valley park and the Willett Branch will be restored.
